Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly talks about India’s chances in the ODI World Cup
Introduction
Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly recently talked about Team India’s chances of winning the much-awaited ODI World Cup at home in 2023. The former Indian captain claimed that the Men in Blue had never prevailed in high-stakes games crumbling under the pressure in the must-win games of the ICC events in recent years.
India’s Recent Performance in ICC Events
Despite coming close, India didn’t take home the ICC trophy in the previous ten years including the recent loss against Australia in the World Test Championship final. In the previous two ODI World Cups, the Indian team lost in the semifinals of the marquee events.
Hope for the Upcoming ODI World Cup
The last ICC title for India came under the leadership of legendary MS Dhoni in the 2013 Champions Trophy and the Rohit Sharma-led side will be pumped up to do well in home conditions this year to end their ICC title drought.
Sourav Ganguly’s Assessment
Sourav Ganguly emphasised India’s chances going into the ODI World Cup in India, as they will look to build on confidence in playing at home conditions and recalled the historic triumphs of the Men in Blue in recent times, including India’s victory over Australia at home and England’s triumph, but also reminded everyone about their performance in key matches of the mega event.
Quote from Sourav Ganguly
“Is #TeamIndia favourite because the World Cup is held in India or because we’re playing with strength and confidence @Virendersehwag? Yes, we won against Aus in Aus, drew series against England but then we lost to them both in big match situations. I think we have a solid team and a big chance, but we do need to get back to our winning ways before the #ICCworldCup2023,”
