Proteas Bowler Gerald Coetzee Likely to be Included in ICC World Cup 2023 Squad
According to a report by IOL, a South African media, the Proteas bowler, Gerald Coetzee is likely to be included in the ICC World Cup 2023 squad of South Africa in the upcoming days, and as being said the youngster Dewald Brevis and Tristan Stubbs will be left out by the team management.
Proteas Hosting Australia Before ICC World Cup 2023
Before the ICC World Cup 2023 which will take place in India, the Proteas is hosting Australia in five ODI matches, and three T20 games.
South Africa Suffers Defeat in T20I Series Against Australia
Aiden Markram-led South Africa have suffered in the three-match T20I games and lost all three games against the Aussies.
In the third and final T20I match, South Africa lost the match by five wickets. In the first inning, the Proteas gave a target of 191 runs. Rezza Hendricks opened for the host and scored 42 runs from 30 balls with a strike rate of 140.00.
Donovan Ferreira played a 48-run knock from 21 balls with a strike rate of 228.57. Meanwhile, Tristan Stubbs scored 25 runs from 16 balls.
In the second inning, Aiden Markram’s side tried hard to defend the given but failed. However, Gerald Coetzee picked up two wickets from his 3.5-over spell and gave away 36 runs. Bjorn Fortuin too picked two wickets in his four-over spell and gave away 36 runs.
Gerald Coetzee’s Performance in International Debut
Gerald Coetzee made his international debut in the Test format against West Indies in 2023 and played two long-format matches where he scalped nine wickets. In the ODI format, Coetzee played his first match against West Indies and featured in two matches where he picked five wickets. On the other hand, the 22-year-old made his debut against Australia in the ongoing series and played three matches where he took three wickets.
Dewald Brevis made his international in the ongoing Australia series but failed to make a mark which probably made the team selector’s mind of not including the youngster. However, Dewald Brevis had a promising Indian Premier League (IPL) career with the Mumbai-based franchise.
ODI Series Against Australia Crucial for World Cup Squad Selection
Before the ICC World Cup 2023, South Africa’s five-match ODI series against Australia will be crucial which help the Proteas to select the squad. The first match will be played on Thursday (September 7th) at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
