Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana Doubtful for Asia Cup Final Due to Injury
Introduction
Sri Lanka’s in-form bowler Maheesh Theekshana is “most likely” to miss Sunday’s Asia Cup final against India, according to Prof. Arjuna de Silva, chairman of the medical panel of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
Injury Concerns
Maheesh Theekshana, a 23-year-old right-arm off-spinner, has suffered a hamstring injury and his availability for the final is doubtful.
Rest Before World Cup
Prof. Arjuna de Silva stated that it is advisable to rest Theekshana considering the upcoming World Cup. The team management would have risked playing him in the final, but prioritizing his fitness for the World Cup is their primary concern.
Reasons for Injury
Prof. Arjuna de Silva mentioned that continuous cricket has contributed to Theekshana’s current injury. He has been involved in various tournaments and matches, including the IPL, LPL, home matches against Afghanistan, qualifying matches in Zimbabwe, and the T20i squad on the New Zealand tour.
Impressive Record
Theekshana has showcased his talent with a total of 83 wickets across all three formats of the game so far.
Last Practice Session
On Saturday morning, the entire 17-member squad participated in the final practice game at the R. Premadasa Stadium. Theeksana was accompanied by the team physio during the session.
Injured Players in Training
Prof. Arjuna de Silva mentioned that the injured players who are not part of the ongoing Asia Cup are currently undergoing training and are making progress in their recovery.
