SS Rajamouli to present ‘biopic of Indian cinema’ titled Made in India: ‘Our boys are ready…’
Filmmaker SS Rajamouli is working towards presenting a movie that narrates the story of Indian cinema. Titled, Made in India, it will be directed by Jawaani Jaaneman fame Nitin Kakkar. SS Rajamouli shared the teaser of biopic of Indian Cinema, Made In India.
After Baahubali and RRR, another epic film by SS Rajamouli
After enthralling audiences with larger-than-life movies like Baahbuali 1 & 2 and RRR, filmmaker SS Rajamouli is set to present another epic film. The filmmaker on Tuesday shared the teaser of his upcoming project titled Made In India. The movie, which narrates the story of ‘the birth and rise’ of Indian cinema, is directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Rajamouli’s son SS Karthikeya, along with Varun Gupta. The announcement teaser of Made in India, which is said to be the biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke, says, “Indian cinema has witnessed many biopics. This is the biopic of Indian cinema. SS Rajamouli presents to you, Made in India.”
Emotional connection to the story
While sharing the first teaser, SS Rajamouli shared how the film’s story left him ’emotional’. He wrote on X, “When I first heard the narration, it moved me emotionally like nothing else. Making a biopic is tough in itself, but conceiving one about the FATHER OF INDIAN CINEMA is even more challenging. Our boys are ready and up for it..:) With immense pride, Presenting MADE IN INDIA…”
About Dadasaheb Phalke
For the unversed, Dadasaheb Phalke is referred to as the ‘Father of Indian Cinema’. Phalke made the first-ever full-length Indian feature film titled Raja Harishchandra in 1913. He went on to make a reported 27 short films, and over 90 full-length movies in his career as a filmmaker of nearly two decades.
The director and production
The cast of the film is yet to be decided. Nitin Kakkar, who has taken the director’s chair for the film, has previously helmed films like Filmistaan (2012), Mitron (2018), Notebook (2019), Jawaani Jaaneman (2020), and Ram Singh Charlie (2020). It is the first production venture of SS Karthikeya, who was credited as Line Producer in his father’s last hit, RRR. Karthikeya wrote on X, “It’s been years since I wanted to fulfill my dream of becoming a producer. The moment has come. MADE IN INDIA… With utmost responsibility, taking this up as a challenge. Cheers to my producing partner, @VarunG0707, and the director @nitinrkakkar.”
Success of RRR and future plans
SS Rajamouli is fresh from the success of RRR. The film won big at the recently held 95th Academy Awards. It won the Best Original Song Oscar for “Naatu Naatu”. The song featured the film’s lead actors, Ram Charan and Jr NTR. The composer of the song MM Keeravaani picked up the trophy with lyricist Chandrabose. After edging out competitors such as Taylor Swift and Rihanna, the song also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. RRR also became one of the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema. It earned $130 million during its run in theatres. Earlier, SS Rajamouli had also expressed his wish to make a film in Hollywood. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast, Rajamouli stated, “I think it is the dream of every filmmaker across the world to make a film in Hollywood. I am no different. I’m open to experimentation.”
