SRK to be seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki: A Comedy-Drama Based on Illegal Indian Immigrants
SRK’s Next Project
SRK, who is currently on a juggernaut with his magnum opus Jawan, will next be seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki, which is reportedly based on the issue of illegal Indian immigrants in US/Canada.
A film high on comedy and drama
The actor said that Dunki will be a film high on comedy as well as drama, following the usual path of a Rajkumar Hirani film. He also added that it will be a film based on the country.
The Unique Name
While talking to Deadline at a recent film festival, the actor opened up on the unique name of the movie and said that in English it would be called ‘Donkey’, but the way a part of the country pronounces donkey in India–the Punjabis– it is ‘dunki’.
A Brilliant Team
He added that it is a film directed by one of the most brilliant filmmakers in the country, Rajkumar Hirani, and written by a fantastic writer, Abhijat Joshi.
A Story of Homecoming
He further said that it is a story of people who want to come back home when they finally get the calling. It is a big journey film that goes through different areas around the world and finally comes back home, to India.
Talking on Dunki, the word going around is that both SRK and Rajkumar Hirani are in talks to postpone the film. However, there is no delay in the shooting schedule or VFX timeline, and the film will be ready for Christmas 2023 release, but the question is whether it makes sense to bring a third Shah Rukh Khan film in the same year. As per a report by koimoi.com, a close friend of Shah Rukh Khan mentioned that there is a strong possibility of Dunki now moving to some time early next year.
Reason for Delay
The report added that after two blockbusters, a third film with SRK leading from the front makes no sense this year. It will be better to wait it out and give his fans time to absorb the two blockbusters. Pathaan is already available on OTT platforms and Jawan will release sometime in November, which means people would be enjoying his magic till year end. And if they do go ahead with a December release, then Shah Rukh will have no release next year and the wait for his next will become even longer.
It has only been seven days since the release of Jawan, and in the next few months, the film will keep on releasing in various markets across the globe, just like Pathaan. Pathaan recently opened in Japan and is doing well.
So now, only time will tell if SRK will come on the big screen for the third time this year or not.
