Pooja Bhatt, known for her successful acting career, recently opened up about the reason why she decided to give up acting at the young age of 24, despite delivering continuous hits. In a conversation with Siddharth Kanan, she revealed that it was the Hindi film industry itself that compelled her to make this decision.
From stardom to disappointment
Pooja Bhatt experienced immense popularity after films like ‘Daddy’, ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin’, and ‘Sadak’. By the age of 19, she had become a superstar. However, she expressed her frustration with the industry’s attitude towards her and said, “At 24, when most people are just starting out, you have reached the height of stardom, but they [the industry] have already brought you down to the pits saying you are finished.”
A fresh start behind the camera
Despite the disappointments, Pooja Bhatt decided to start afresh and shifted her focus towards filmmaking. At the age of 25, she established her own production house and made her directorial debut with the film ‘Tamanna’. This film not only won her the National Award but also brought self-gratification and self-esteem back into her life.
Growing success and acclaimed films
Pooja Bhatt’s journey behind the camera continued to be successful. She went on to direct films like ‘Dushman’ with Kajol and ‘Zakhm’, which became critically acclaimed. With each project, she cemented her place in the industry as a talented filmmaker.
