Gadar 2 Box Office Collection Day 36: Sunny Deol-starrer Slows Down Against Jawan Wave, Struggles to Cross Pathaan’s Lifetime Collection
Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar 2 has been performing exceedingly well at the box office, but the collections are now slowing down. Gadar 2’s collections are slowing down against Jawan’s dominance in the box office.
Box Office Performance
Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 set the box office on fire with its mindblowing opening of Rs 40.1 crore upon release on August 11. Now, after 36 days, the film seems to be slowing down given the big competition it is facing against Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. According to the trade website Sacnilk, Gadar collected Rs 44 lakh in India on its 36th day. This takes the film’s nett domestic total to Rs 517.72 crore. Sunny’s film is aiming to beat the collections of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which made Rs 543.05 crore in India.
Impact of Jawan
With Jawan dominating the box office since its release on September 7, the business of other films including Vijay Deverakonda’s Kushi and Vishal’s Tamil film Mark Antony has been severely affected.
Investment and Returns
Gadar 2 was made at a budget of Rs 60 crore, as per director Anil Sharma, and given the investment that was put into the film, the returns are definitely worth studying. The franchise had a lot of nostalgic value but given the fact that Sunny Deol had not appeared in a hit film in a long time, trade pundits did not expect Gadar 2 to bring in such big numbers.
Possibility of Gadar 3
Now, it is to be seen when the makers start prepping for Gadar 3. Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 brings back Sunny as Tara Singh and actor Ameesha Patel as Sakeena. The film’s story moves ahead from its prequel, where the onscreen couple’s son, played by Utkarsh Sharma, is captured in Pakistan and Tara Singh goes back to rescue his son.
The box office collections of Gadar 2 have been impressive but it is facing tough competition from Jawan. With its strong opening and nostalgic value, Sunny Deol’s film has exceeded expectations. The possibility of Gadar 3 remains to be seen.
