Gulshan Devaiah criticises Besharam

Actor Gulshan Devaiah opens up about his favorite comedy actors

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who is receiving praise for his role Chaar Cut Atmaram in Guns and Gulaabs, recently opened up about his favorite comedy actors. In an interview with the YouTube channel IVM Pop, Gulshan was asked to list out his favorite comedians, and the actor said, “Mehmood, Govinda, Vadivelu from Tamil industry, Bharti Achrekar, and Ranbir Kapoor. He is really interesting when he does comedy as well. Even in Barfi! (2012)… physical comedy.”

Gulshan’s disappointment with Ranbir Kapoor in Besharam

However, when the interviewer suggested Ranbir did well in Besharam (2013) too, Devaiah’s face turned sad immediately. He said, “I am really sorry that… I like everyone associated with the film, but it is just (trails off)…”

  • Ranbir Kapoor was highly sought-after in Bollywood
  • Everyone wanted to work with him and were throwing money at him
  • Besharam was expected to be a great success
  • Gulshan Devaiah had high hopes for the film
  • The film turned out to be a huge disappointment

Shah Rukh Khan as the last superstar

Gulshan was also asked whether he agrees that Shah Rukh Khan is the last superstar. “That really depends. I don’t know. I don’t know if I fully agree or disagree with it. To some extent, yes. There are two kinds of fame in the entertainment industry. One is where the audience loves you. Two, where they love your work and the characters. Looking through that lens, people love Shah Rukh Khan. Yes, his work too, but it is always him. It’s like ‘This is Shah Rukh ki picture’.” He added that such kind of theatrical stardom will be hard to come by for some time. “I am not discrediting those who have achieved it in TV or OTT. I want that success for myself as well. So, I am not taking away anything from them. I am just being realistic. Nothing beats the theatrical stardom. That kind of stardom will not be around for some time.”
