Fans have been expressing disappointment ever since they learned about Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor’s absence from Welcome 3. And now Anees Bazmee, who directed Welcome and Welcome 2, has broken his silence on the matter.

When Anees was asked about the development, he told India Today that he himself is not a part of Welcome 3. He acknowledged what Nana said about the casting of the film and said that he has no say in Welcome 3 casting. “If the makers have taken any decision, it must have been taken after careful consideration,” he added.

Anees then stated that if he was directing the film, it would not have been possible for him to make this film without Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor. He said that both the characters have been iconic and even today their videos are seen on social media. “Both of them have been important characters. I can’t imagine this film without them,” he said.

However, Anees expressed his excitement about the new casting and said that it will be interesting to see his good friends Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi join the Welcome franchise. He added that it’s a completely creative call and how they make it is up to them.

On being asked about not directing Welcome 3, Anees said that the rights of the film are with the producer who is also close to him. And if he has entrusted the responsibility of directing the film to anyone else, then he will have faith in his vision.

Nana Patekar’s Comments at The Vaccine War Trailer Launch

On Tuesday, Nana Patekar took a dig at the makers of Welcome 3 at the trailer launch of his film The Vaccine War. “I am not a part of it, maybe they think hum bahut puraane ho gaye hai (I have become outdated),” Nana said. Pointing at director Vivek Agnihotri, he said, “He doesn’t think I have become so old, so he cast me in his film. It’s that simple.”

With The Vaccine War, Nana Patekar is returning to the big screen after five years after Kaala. In The Vaccine War, he essays the role of Balram Bhargava, former director general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), who was actively involved in dealing with the pandemic and was part of the country’s Covid working group.
